Get started with Claude Code — the ultimate AI helper for creatives
Step-by-step guide on how to get the most out of Claude Code — zero technical knowledge required.
Maybe you’ve heard of Claude Code — supposedly a very powerful AI tool that “lives” on your computer and does things for you.
Maybe you’ve even checked the installation guides and tutorials that are plentiful online — and got immediately overwhelmed by all the technical details and words like “code”, “commands”, “terminal”, “markdown”.
If you’re wanting to explore what Claude Code can do for you, and at the same time you’re wondering whether it’s built for you — someone who is NOT a developer or a data scientist — you’re in the right place.
We’re about to break the myth that Claude Code was created for technical people.
You’re about to learn that Claude Code is indeed a super powerful AI assistant that you — the creative, the thinker, the “non-technical” person — can greatly benefit from.
Before we dive in, I want to share with you what prompted me to create this guide.

I didn’t create it to make money — this guide is, and always will be, free. So, why?
The truth is — Claude Code has transformed the way I work with AI.
Claude Code was released in February of 2025. For many months after its release, I kept thinking that it’s not built for me but rather for developers who write code — and I have a computer science degree and have worked in the tech world for two decades! But it has “Code” it its name after all, and I haven’t coded anything since 2008.
Oh how wrong I was.
Eventually I gave Claude Code a try — couldn’t fight my curiosity any longer. And when I did, I uncovered a fundamentally different way of working with AI. Next level. Not even close to ChatGPT or Claude Web — night and day (sorry, not sorry.)
Today I practically live in the terminal. Claude Code is my executive assistant, thinking partner, lead developer, content manager, writing coach, sounding board, and so many other things.
It all started with a simple act of trying. And I hope this guide will inspire you to do the same — simply try and see where your curiosity takes you.
But enough about me.
Let’s go back to the guide, shall we?
Get started with Claude Code
The purpose of this guide is to introduce you to Claude Code — what it can do, how to set it up, what use cases you can use it for — using bite-sized mini guides. Think of each mini guide as a step that teaches you one specific thing and empowers you to practice it right away — without the overwhelm that comes with trying to learn everything at once.
The best learning happens not through studying theory but through practice and real life experience.
For your convenience, all the steps are listed below. If you’re brand new to Claude Code, I’d suggest you explore them in this particular order. And if you already have Claude Code installed and would like to dive into a particular topic, feel free to jump straight to the step you’re most interested in:
Note: This guide is a living thing, meaning that it’s designed to be updated with new steps overtime. Bookmark this page, or save this post (depending on how you like to save things for later) so you have this guide handy in case you need a reminder later. And be sure to subscribe to Hey Claude if you haven’t already — this way you won’t miss an update.
Step 1: The first look
New to Claude Code? Then this is the place to start. In this guide, you’ll learn what Claude Code is, how to set it up, and how to start actually using it right away — no “technical” projects or computer science degree required.
Step 2: Help Claude remember
Okay, you have Claude Code up and running, and you’ve had a few chats with it already. Now you’re beginning to wonder if there is a way to NOT have to bring it up to speed on the projects you’re working on every single time. Yes — such way exists, and it’s called persistent memory.
Step 3: Streamline your work
Do you have certain checklists or ways of doing things that you’d like Claude Code to just… know? Are you getting more and more frustrated because you have to re-explain your specific process to Claude Code again and again — all while worrying that you yourself might’ve forgotten an important step of this process? Claude Code commands is what you need — and please don’t let the word “command” intimidate you.
